On 19 Aug 2026 a federal judge in Louisiana temporarily barred the NCAA from enforcing the rule that ends college football eligibility once a player signs a pro contract, and several undrafted rookies began leaving NFL camps for college rosters. Within a week the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC each voted to bar players who had been drafted by or listed on an NFL roster, while Group of Five and FCS conferences adopted no such rule. Every player in that wave is an undrafted rookie whose only NFL game action was in preseason; no player who has appeared in an NFL regular-season or postseason game is known to have subsequently played NCAA Division I football.
